💜Charity 🏃‍♀️Runners 🏃‍♂️Edition💜Volume 1

Volume 1... now I have to do a Volume 2, right?!

Welcome to the August 2024 issue of the #FUNdraisingGeek Newsletter! The premiere newsletter for #FundraisingTips, #SocialMediaTips, and #FeaturedCharities

Who’s running/riding/moving for charity this season? 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏊🏽‍♀️ Whether it’s a fall marathon, a 3 day walk, or your first triathlon…this issue is for you. It’s filled with #FeaturedFUNdraisers and the charities they run for. I hope you are inspired and in awe of these amazing charity runners and FUNdraisers!

Switzer was the first women to run the Boston Marathon as an officially registered competitor in 1967.

Walisa is the best cheerleader for others, and now I’d like to take a moment to cheer her on! Her energy and enthusiasm will take her far in her FUNdraising efforts and while running 26.2 miles through the 5 boroughs of New York City! You got this, Walisa!! 📣

Walisa is running with the New York Road Runners (NYRR) Team for Kids, a group of runners who commit to fundraising for NYRR youth and community programs. These programs involve kids in running and fitness activities, to build their confidence, motivation, and desire to be physically active for life.

How to inspire a runner!

Becky is running her 6th marathon - if you count the marathons which were part of the three Ironman Triathlons she completed - which, of course, you do! Becky was recently inspired to apply for the Chicago Marathon lottery and when that didn’t come through, a well time email from the Morton Arboretum, inspired her to sign up as a charity runner! Becky says: “My husband and I took our engagement photos there, and we went a few times during COVID to get out and get some fresh air. I’ve got two teenage stepkids, and what’s more important than making sure we do everything we can to fund research for nature?” 🌳🌺🌿

Every spectator counts!

🚴‍♀️ This will be Melissa’s 9th consecutive year participating in Badger Challenge, an annual walking, running, and biking event which powers the brightest cancer minds, ideas, and technologies at the University of Wisconsin. She has always participated in memory of her mom, Diane, who she lost to cancer in 1998.

💜 In 2022, the fight against cancer took on new meaning for Melissa, when she herself was diagnosed with 2 types of cancer, and was also diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, a genetic mutation that greatly increases her risk of many types of cancer. Melissa is currently cancer free, but will be undergoing many cancer screenings for the rest of her life.

Spectators get creative!

🐶 Welcome animal-lovers. Jacqui is running the 2024 Bank of America Chicago Marathon (her 4th, and final full marathon) as a member of TEAM PAWS 🐾 Chicago. She is forever grateful for her former (Cody) and current (JoJo) rescue dogs who changed her life, and is FUNdraising to help save the lives of even more homeless pets! 💜 🐕‍🦺
